Feb 14, 2006 (newstodate): Finnair has joined Link2000+, the Eurocontrol program co-coordinating the implementation of Controller Pilot Data link Communications, CPDLC, in Europe.
A long-time user of ARINC's GLOBALinkSM service, Finnair plans to equip 29 of its A320 family aircraft with new Airbus VDLM2 avionics for use in the Link 2000+ ATC program by the end of 2006.
With the addition of Finnair's aircraft, the Link2000+ program will have more than 266 participating aircraft from 12 airlines.
Improved ATC communications allow cockpit crews to use efficient CPDLC digital messaging instead of traditional voice radio, reducing the workload of controllers and pilots and effectively providing additional airspace capacity.
