Feb 13, 2006 (newstodate): The EU Parliament's Transport Committee has adopted a second reading report establishing a Community Air Traffic Controller Licence.
By introducing common rules on training and licensing of ATC controllers, the aim is to ensure high safety standards and make it easier for ATC controllers to work outside their home country by simplifying the mutual recognition of national licences.
The initiative is driven by the current lack of about 1,800 ATC controllers.
