Feb 13, 2006 (newstodate): British Airways World Cargo has come off to a good start in the Finnish market.
The deveopment has been prompted by BAWC's designation of a cargo GSA in Finland, Airline Services GSA from November 2005 after a period without representation since February 15, 2005, when a cargo sales agreement with Finnair Cargo was cancelled.
-The demand for space keeps growing. December was relative quiet, but this was to be expected, though, as many agents still feel prejudices about the functionality of London Heathrow and Gatwick as transfer stations, says Jari Aaltonen, Airline Services.
-Our biggest challenge is to change this into a positive direction. This is a long project, but we are sure that BA, which was voted as Cargo Airline of the Year in 2005, will find its market place in Finland.
-Currently we sell space on the BA morning flight HEL-LHR, and for bigger shipments we can truck to Stockholm where BA operates with widebody aircraft every day, and A300F freighter on Saturdays to London. We also truck directly from Helsinki to London. Destinations like Denver, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, and Caribean, some African destinations and Europe have met the agents' interest, says Mr Aaltonen.
