Feb 3, 2006 (newstodate): The Albanian government is keen to see an increase in the number of foreign airlines serving Tirana Airport.
The airport is managed Tirana Airport Partners, TAP, an international consortium headed by the German Hochtief AirPort, under a 20 years contract signed in 2004 and taking effect from April 23, 2005.
Austrian Airlines, Malev, Olympic Airlines, JAT, Alitalia, Adria Airways, Turkish Airlines and Hemus Air offer regular, scheduled flights to Tirana, that is also the home base for Albanian carrier Albanian Airlines, Albatros Airways, Ada Air, and the fledgling Albanian lcc, Belle Air that started operations around Christmas 2005.
The government has now declared its interest in strengthening its cooperation with TAP to seek more foreign airlines to serve the market.
The latest newcomer to Tirana is British Airways that will operate between London Gatwick and Tirana from this summer's schedule.
