Feb 9, 2006 (newstodate): The business climate surrounding Aeroflot's order for six IL-96-300 aircraft remains less than amicable in the aftermath of last year's problems with the aircraft's airworthiness.
Aeroflot ordered the doubling of its fleet of IL-96-300 as early as 1999, but with the technical problems arising around the presidential aircraft, Aeroflot in 2005 put forward a series of harsh demands on quality enhancement, better documentation of aircraft spares and components and other issues.
There demands were reiterated and further detailed at the carrier's latest board meeting in February 2006.
More crucial, Aeroflot has withheld the downpayment till convinced of the efficiency of the strengthened measures.
The aircraft manufacturer has now threatened to find alternative buyers for the six aircraft if the advance payment is not received by mid-year.
