The single largest investment the first nine months of 2006 was the construction of Phase 1 of the new passenger terminal, which includes the extension and adaptation of the existing terminal.
This work will be completed by June 2007, with Phase 2 which involves a new 30,000m2 passenger terminal planned for completion by 2010.
Two public tenders were opned to select a supplier of passenger boarding bridges, and a contractor for the construction and trades work and installation work of the jetbridges. The construction work will be carried out by the Ljubljana-based company SCT d.d., and the bridges will be supplied by ThyssenKrupp.
To serve the new gates the airport has extended the existing apron parking slots, and work has also started on a runway extension.
