Dec 20, 2006 (newstodate): Slovakian lcc SkyEurope Airlines has announced the opening of a new base at Vienna Schwechat International airport, only 60 km from its hub and HQ at Bratislava.
From March 25, 2007, the company will place two Boeing 737-700 aircraft at Vienna International airport to operate a network of 16 non-stop direct European routes from Vienna with a total of 61 weekly flights.
Among the destinations to be opened from Vienna are Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris in head-on competition to Austrian Airlines.
Today already 20 percent of SkyEurope's passengers departing and arriving from Bratislava are Austrians, and on certain routes Austrian passengers account for over 50 percent of the loads, according to the company.
Among the destinations from Vienna are also Bucharest, Sofia, Zadar, Dubrovnik and Split.
