Dec 7, 2006 (newstodate): Norway has committed itself to assist Serbia in developing its civil aviation sector.
In 2005, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs agreed with Serbian authorities to support the consultancy regarding possible restructuring of JAT with USD560,000.
It was agreed to chose the World Bank's IFC as partner to implement the project, the first phase of which, financed by Norway, is supposed to be concluded by the end of 2006.
IFC will provide the Serb government with a review of the airline and the sector, identifying critical issues and suggesting recommendations aimed at transforming Jat into a viable enterprise through private sector participation.
Norway has also contributed to the renovation of Nis Airport in 2001-02 with NOK 32 million.
