Dec 18, 2006 (newstodate): Within the last four weeks, 19 freighter aircraft have used Iceland's Keflavik Airport as a re-fuelling station on routes between the USA and Afghanistan.
The freighters have been carrying military armament and munition for the peace-keeping ISAF forces in Afghanistan.
A sealed-off "hot cargo zone" was created to separate the military operations from the commercial activities at the airport, part of which was a US military base until the summer of 2006.
