Dec 19, 2006 (newstodate): The grounding of FaroeJet after its suspension of payments leaves the Faroese air cargo market back in limbo.
-FaroeJet was defeated by head-on competition with the islands' other airline, Atlantic Airways, says Knut Lutzen, Safari Transport general manager.
-Already now the Faroese forwarders are seeing their shipments delayed or off-loaded, and the industry is again marred by irregularity.
-It is a most deplarable situation. Since the launch of FaroeJet in May this year we have seen cargo volumes steadily rising at a fast rate after a long period of stagnation and decline since Maersk Air Cargo left the islands in October, 2004.
-One can only speculate if Atlantic Airways is willing, or capable, to fill the void in capacity left by FaroeJet. I fear this will not happen, and we will again lose the opportunities to increase the export volumes of fish products from the Faroe Islands, says Mr Lutzen.
