Dec 7, 2006 (newstodate): The European Commission has adopted a regulation on a common charging scheme for air navigation services to apply as of January 1, 2007.
The new charging system regulates which costs are eligible and how users will be charged for air navigation services.
The regulation concerns the financing of air navigation service provision. Annual turnover of the air navigation service industry amounts to about seven billion euro, constituting six percent for every euro spent on an airline ticket.
The adoption of the regulation will be followed later this year by a proposal for a directive on airport charges, forming part of the so-called "airport package".
