Nov 22, 2006 (newstodate): Plans for a new aircraft maintenance center in Istanbul are moving fast forward.
-A tender for design of the planned total of four aircraft maintenance hangars has been opened, and a decision will be announced soon, says a spokesman for the HABOM project, a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines.
-Also we are in the process of identifying viable JV partners, and this looks promising. But we have decided to go ahead with the construction project independently from the issue of a JV, meaning that the construction will start in 2007, with the facilities of the first phase ready by, hopefully, mid-2008. As suitable parties are found they will then be involved in the project on a JV basis.
-On the engine side we are close to announcing an MoU, talking right now to two potential partners.
Plans are to build two narrow-body hangars first, adding two wide-body hangars as the next step, in addition to engine plant and paint shops.
