Nov 13, 2006 (newstodate): The plans for a new air cargo complex to become a regional transfer cargo hub at Serbia's Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport have run into severe problems.
A few weeks ago, DynCorp International announced its decision to pull out of the project despite a MoU signed in January this year after the company won the tender for the project in early 2005.
As late as in October this year Beograd Airport and DynCorp still said they would "soon" start work on the projected new cargo center.
The immediate future of the project is thus unclear after the US pull-out.
In 2005 the airport recorded a total of 8,000 tonnes, planning for a 15 percent growth in 2006 to reach around 10,000 tonnes this year.
During the frist eight months of this year, the airport generated a total of 6,538 tonnes of cargo.
