Nov 21, 2006 (newstodate): The Russian government has now completed the privatisation of Sochi Airport by the Black Sea.
New owner is a Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska that pledges to bring the airport up to western standards before the OL Winter Games in 2014, where Sochi has placed a bid on hosting rights.
The new owner will invest in constructing a new passenger terminal, while the state will remain responsible for upgrading the runways and other primary facilities.
On May 3, 2006, a presidential decree excluded Sochi Airport among Russia's strategic enterprises, and the airport was poised for privatisation.
Generating a total of 1.2 mio passengers in 2005, Sochi Airport has two runways of 2,890 and 2,200 m, respectively, and was formerly a military air base
