Nov 24, 2006 (newstodate): The never-ending story - the disputed Russian charges for trans-Siberian overflights will again land on the forthcoming EU-Russia summit.
The Russian side has, however, declared that it will not raise the subject itself.
-We believe that we have not yet reached a compromise, though there are certain achievements in this respect, but the subject has not been looked into completely, a Russian official told the press.
The parties have reached an agreement that set 2014 as the final timeline for abolishing the charges.
EU has, however, maintained that the charges must be reduced in a phased approach, meaning that immediate action must be taken to start reducing the charges that are estimated to cost western airlines some USD235-300 million annually.
EU has also warned Russia that a solution to the crucial issue is a precondition for its accept of Russia's entry into the WTO.
