Nov 20, 2006 (newstodate): Cargo volumes at Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport dropped by 6.5 percent in October, 2006, to 7,544 tonnes.
The decline was caused by the drop in the airport's international cargo, down 9.3 percent to 5,424 tonnes after the suspension of the Lufthansa Cargo/Japan Airlines Cargo freighter service to Nagoya since September 2005.
Norway's prime air cargocommodity, exports by air of fresh salmon to the Japanese market, has stagnated in 2006while still constituting about half of the country's total salmon exports.
For January-October, Oslo Gardermoen Airport reports a total of 72,741 tonnes of air cargo, up 5.7 percent y-o-y, and still showing a growth by 8.4 percent in international cargo, totalling 52,536 tonnes.
