Nov 8, 2006 (newstodate): Airbus' US first customer for the A380 freighter has cancelled its order for a total of 10 aircraft.
FedEx, deeply involved in the A380F project from the very start, was originally to receive its first A380-800F in August 2008, with two more to come by the end of 2008. Three would follow in 2009, three in 2010 and the 10th would be added in 2011.
Besides, FedEx held options for 10 additional aircraft.
But after the latest revision of Airbus' delivery plans, FedEx would have to wait till 2010 to receive its first A380 freighter.
Airbus booked a total of 27 firm orders for the 150 tonnes capacity A380 freighter, but Emirates later converted its two A380F ordered into passenger aircraft, and after FedEx' cancellation only 15 freighter orders still remain, comprising 10 for UPS and five for IFLC.
FedEx says it will instead buy 15 Boeing 777 freighters, with options for a further 15.
Delivery of the aircraft will begin in 2009.
Since its launch in 2005, the 777 Freighter program has won orders for 38 aircraft from five customers.
