Nov 2, 2006 (newstodate): Air cargo volumes are continuing to grow at Vargar Airport, the Faroe Islands.
In October, volumes were 53.8 tonnes, up 116.1 percent on last year, and for the period January-October the growth was 27.9 percent, to 387.4 tonnes.
Air mail volumes also grew, up 12.9 percent to 41 tonnes, while down 12.4 percent to 354 tonnes during the period.
On the table is a plan for runway extension from the current 1,200 to 1,600 metres which would allow for Airbus A320/Boeing 737 operations without the current take-off weight restrictions also severely restricting airfreight potentials.
