Nov 3, 2006 (newstodate): Belarus is keen to grow its civil aviation business.
Minsk Airport is seeing its cargo volumes up by 50 percent this year, and passenger volumes are up by 45 percent so far into 2006.
In 2004, 36 foreign transit cargo aircraft landed in Belarus, in 2005 the number increased to 780, and during the first nine months of this year the figure exceeded 1,000 operations.
The government has decided on a five-year plan to further update Minsk Airport, and to renew the aircraft fleet of the national state-owned carrier, Belavia.
Belavia's fleet currently comprises 45 aircraft, including two Boeing 737-500 aircraft under a five year contract with IFLC.
