Nov 10, 2006 (newstodate): After a comprehensive modernisation, Azerbaijan has reopened its Gyandzha Airport.
Serving the country's second largest city, the international Cat II airport now has a reconstructed 3,300 m runway allowing it to receive all types of aircraft.
Siemens has provided the airfield lighting equipment and bi-directional ILS.
Also completed are new aircraft platforms, a cargo terminal, passenger terminal and ATC tower.
Also implemented is a new radar system and MET equipment.
Among the airport's first commercial news following the completion of the modernisation process, Turan Air plans to open a new route, from December 2, from Gyandzha to Istanbul, to be operated twice weekly.
