Nov 8, 2006 (newstodate): At its press conference earlier this week, Volga-Dnepr claimed to have now replaced Aeroflot as Russia's largest air cargo carrier.
The company said it now topped the list with a total of 95,000 tonnes lifted during the first nine months of this year.
This, however, conflicts with Aeroflot's statistics for the same period, stating a total of 104,500 tonnes.
Looking back in history, Aeroflot aggregated 106,900 tonnes of air cargo during January-September 2005, 103,300 tonnes in 2004, and 80,000 tonnes in 2003.
A source participating at the press conference, however, says that one Volga-Dnepr slide had showed a total of 95,388 tonnnes in January-August, indicating that the company's claim could be true, albeit based on wrong figures.
Pending further clarification, Aeroflot Cargo thus remains Russia's largest air cargo carrier.
