Nov 23, 2006 (newstodate): Bulgaria has paved the way for decommissioning a batch of air force bases now seeking a commercial future.
Comprised by the decision are air force bases Dobrich, Uzundjovo, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Gabrovnitsa, Stara Zagora and part Krumovo AFB.
First to go is Gorna Oryahovitsa by the end of this year, followed by Krumovo in March 2007.
A process of legal verification will require one year of deliberations, after which tenders will be opened to attract private investors.
The new process follows on the launch in 2005 of the privatisation of former AFBs Straklevo, Krainitsi and Straldja.
In most cases the coming commercial airports will target cargo and charter traffic.
A further bunch of 26 current AFBs are next to be decommissioned in the coming years.
