Oct 25, 2006 (newstodate): Sweden's Orebro Airport expects this year's cargo volumes to exceed the current record of 21,000 tonnes, set in 1998.
Contributing significantly to the optimism is an order for building cargo pallets for Icelandair that trucks them for uplift from Jonkoping airport on the carrier's two weekly Boeing 757-200F flights to Charlotte and New York.
Also adding to this year's volumes is a new route by Nordic Solutions from Orebro to Helsinki, Finland.
Ad-hoc cargo charter flights have long been a major business at Orebro Airport that recently handled three Boeing 747 freighter flights destined for Asia with Swedish telecom equipment.
In 2005, the airport generated close to 20,000 tonnes of cargo.
