Oct 13, 2006 (newstodate): Koltsovo Airport at Yekaterinburg, in Russia's Sverdlovsk region, is seeing its cargo business significantly up in 2006.
During the period January-September, the airport recorded a total of 10,619 tonnes of air cargo, up 34 percent on last year.
The total breaks down into cargo on domestic flights, 7,076 tonnes and up 26.7 percent, cargo on CIS flights, 310 tonnes and up 51.9 percent, and cargo on international flights, 3,233 tonnes and up 48.8 percent.
The airport has been designated to become the region's largest airport hub, with the Russian goverment's full support, and federal budgets together with private investments have been used for renovation of the airport's two existing runways and the building of a third one, in addition to construction of a new terminal.
Lufthansa Consulting has been assisting in the realisation of the modernisation projects on a consultancy basis.
