Oct 3, 2006 (newstodate): Air cargo at Vagar Airport, the Faroe Islands, continues to increase significantly in 2006.
In September the airport generated a total of 41.9 tonnes of cargo, up 12 percent, and during January-September the total volume was 333.6 tonnes, up 20 percent on last year.
In the pipeline are plans to extend the runway by 350 m to 1,600, which will allow operations without weight penalty with larger aircraft than the BAe 146/Avro aircraft currently used by its two airline operators, Atlantic Airways and FaroeJet.
