Oct 23, 2006 (newstodate): While its entrance to the US airspace remains blocked by a sustained low air safety rating by the FAA, Serb carrier JAT is planning for a route to New York in cooperation with Emirates.
Sources say JAT and Emirates have signed a agreement to code-share Emirates' new route from Hamburg to New York from this autumn.
Emirates will open the new route from October 29, operating a Boeing 777 aircraft.
FAA's safety rating has not been updated since May 2006, leaving Serbia in category 2, which prohibits JAT to start own flights that have long been in the pipeline.
