Oct 26, 2006 (newstodate): The US military withdrawal from its former base at Iceland's Keflavik Airport has left large areas and compounds in a void.
An Organization for the Development of Keflavk Airport in Iceland has now been established by the Icelandic state to boost the economy of the region and capitalise on the assets of the deserted US-army base.
After a clean-up of the area's environment, hopes are to attract aviation-related companies to set up activities with the benefit of the neighbouring international airport that grants equally easy interface to markets both in North America and Europe.
