Oct 25, 2006 (newstodate): From October 29, Kazakhstan's Air Astana will change its IATA flight code from 4L to KC.
The carrier considers this a major break-through as letter-number combinations are generally assigned to young airlines, while only established carriers are eligible for pure letter codes.
Since its first flight in May 2002 Air Astana has increased its fleet from three to 15 westsern-built aircraft and expanded its route network to include 24 domestic and 17 international destinations.
