Oct 30, 2006 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's Aktau International Airport is being reconstructed, and projects are slated to be completed in 2007.
Included in the reconstruction project is a new passenger terminal, and the runway is being reinforced to allow for operations with large cargo aircraft.
Also a new cargo terminal is under construction.
In 2005, Aktau Airport generated a total of 2,412 tonnes of cargo, and the airport estimates a a total of 2,700 tonnes.
The regional authorities have worked out an integrated project named Land-Sea-Sky within the framework of the forthcoming expansion of the special economic area, Morport Aktau.
The project aims at the reconstruction of old roads, building of new roads and railways, and modernisation of Aktau International Airport witha budget of 12,500,000 USD.
