Oct 26, 2006 (newstodate): Depending on the conclusions from an ongoing analysis work, Finnair may consider selling all or part of its ground handling company, Northport Oy and its subsidiaries in 2007.
The considerations are part of the companys efforts to bring about structural change and improvement of profitability.
-Changes in ownership or partnership for the company or parts of it are being analysed. Ground handling is not part of the airline's core business. The future for the company is not necessarily tied with the airline. It provides opportunities to gain new customers also from competing alliances, says Lasse Heinonen, Finnair CFO.
The analysis work is to be completed by the end of March next year.
With a total of 900 staff, Northport provides ground handling services to Finnair and other airlines at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and at 13 other airports in Finland.
In addition it has subsidiaries offering ground services at Stockholm Arlanda and Oslo Gardemoen Airports.
