Oct 5, 2006 (newstodate): Cargolux has little to say as to its strategic partnership with FastShip, but FastShip certainly has a vision.
From 2009 FastShip will operate its JetShip services between Philadelphia and Cherbourg, offering a capacity of 10,000 tonnes on its trans-Atlantic voyage that takes on 3.5 days.
-We think there are great opportunities to work together with Cargolux or any air freight operator as well as other industry players, says Kate Chambers, FastShip spokeswoman.
-Our line-haul service can be integrated into any air freight carrier's existing network to build new products and optimize operations.
-As an example, sea-air products come to mind, linking North America to far regions served by the air network. Or an opportunity to redeploy freighters into more profitable markets while still serving customers.
-As we know, air freight operators face a challenging environment: the trans-Atlantic air freight market is not particularly remunerative for freighters to begin with given the impact of belly capacity on that trade. And, as we know, high fuel costs have driven air freight rates so high that shippers are looking for ways not to use air freight.
-FastShip, by adding a completely new dimension to the modal mix, creates a whole new set of profitable possibilities for serving customers. We have recently initiated a new approach to reach out to the airlines to build on these opportunities, says Ms Chambers.
