Oct 3, 2006 (newstodate): Commencing trans-Atlantic operations from end of 2009, FastShip is developing its concept with a group of strategic partners.
Among them is Cargolux that will reportedly build new products for its customers with FastShip.
Surprisingly, Cargolux is most reluctant to elaborate on its reasons for supporting this coming competitor to the market that will take a slice of the air cargo market with low-rate shipments between Philadelphia, USA, and Cherbourg, France.
-We have had discussions over the years with Fastship on ways we can cooperate. As of now, nothing is definite, says Robert van de Weg, Cargolux senior vice president, sales & marketing.
FastShip has announced that it will issue a tender in November 2006 for 1.3 million tonnes of trans-Atlantic cargo capacity provided by the first three hi-tech JetShips that takes 10,000 tonnes of cargo across the Atlantic within three-and-a-half days.
