Oct 12, 2006 (newstodate): Bulgarian Antonov freighter operators are preparing for intensive paper work to keep their aircraft in the air after the Bulgarian EU membership from January 1, 2007.
-It is really a paper issue, but now we and other Bulgarian Antonov freighter operators are working closely with EU authorities, our transport ministry and the Antonov Design Bureau to meet the March 28-deadline, says Sergey Petkov, Bright Aviation Services General Manager.
-Of course we hope for a positive solution to the problem that consists in major differences between our national type certification procedures and those of the EU.
-If we fail to solve the issues with EU, we could of course take our aircraft off the registers of Bulgaria and register them in, say, Russia or Ukraine instead. But after all we are now to become members of EU, so that would really be a stupid end result, says Mr Petkov.
Bright Aviation currently operates two AN-12 freighters, expecting to add two more aircraft before the end of this year.
