Oct 11, 2006 (newstodate): Boeing is seeing sustained succes with its freighter program, the Boeing 747-8.
Emirates recently finalised its order with Boeing for delivery of 10 747-8 Freighters and options for a further 10 aircraft.
Including this, Boeing has now landed a total of 44 Boeing 747-8 freighters since the launch of the program in November, 2005.
The 747-8 Freighter, exploiting the technological experience from the new Boeing 787 program, will be 5.6 m longer than the 747-400 freighter, and offer a cargo capacity of 154 tonnes.
Similar attempts by Boeing to re-market updated versions of its vintage Jumbo jet for passenger transportation have, however, failed, and the manufacturer has not sold one passenger Juimbo since 2002.
