Oct 6, 2006 (newstodate): The MoU on strategic partnership between Russia's airline alliance AiRUnion and Austrian Airlines holds great potentials for future growth.
The partners will start working on a multi-hub strategy with Vienna, Moscow Domodedovo, Samara and Krasnojarsk as its mainstay to cover the entire Russian market with air services to and from Europe, and with Austrian Airlines as AiRUnion's preferred western carrier.
AiRUnion is planning flights from Samara to Vienna, and possibly also from Krasnojarsk to Vienna via Moscow, using Boeing 767, 757 and 737 on the routes.
The cooperation is set to begin with next year's summer schedule from March next year. Both partners expect to achieve network synergies through codeshare flights, blocked space agreements and pro-rata agreements, all of which are now under negotiation.
Austrian Airlines currently operates to five cities in Russia including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Jekaterinburg, Rostov on Don, and Krasnodar.
