Jan 10, 2006 (newstodate): A further delay has now pushed the opening of the new Tblisi Airport to December, 2006.
Last month, November 2006 emerged as the target.
The revised masterplan for the airport construction project was published in September last year after the former winners of the tender were rejected, and a new contract was signed with the Turkish companies TAV and Urban that are now responsible for the works.
In the meantime the airport director was sacked due to strong criticism over lack of competence and management skills.
According to the new plans, the existing airport will be closed down and turned into a hotel area, while a new airport will be designed to accomodate 2,000 passengers per hour.
