Jan 3, 2006 (newstodate): Before the end of 2005, Hungarian carrier Malev succeeded in restructuring the company in an effort to boost its competitiveness.
Without union unrest, the company separated its technical division and ground handling company into independent entities, thus reducing its total workforce by 400 jobs.
The technical activities are now concentrated in a new company, Aeroplex, while the ground handling activities are performed by Malev GH.
The corporatisation is part of Malev's strategy to privatize the company after several aborted attempts.
Malev plans to join the oneworld airline alliance by May, 2006.
