Jan 24, 2006 (newstodate): Norwegian Air Shuttle has been named designated carrier for new routes to Russia.
-After having obtained traffic rights between Norway and Russia we have now taken the next natural step to seek slots, but no decisino has yet been made as to when we might start operations, says Anne Grete Ellingsen, Norwegian Air Shuttle director communication.
-We are constantly assessing new market opportunities, and while continuing our build-up in the west we are keen to identify potentials in the East European markets as well.
-Russia is definitely an interesting market, and Moscow and St Petersburg are the Russian destinations closest to Oslo. But there still remains a series of agreements and contracts to be made before flights could start, she says.
From this summer's schedule, Norwegian will open a number of new destinations in Eastern Europe including daily flights from Oslo to Prague, Warsaw and Budapest, and five weekly flights to Cracow.
The carrier also flies to Gdansk, upping frequency from two to three weekly operations from this spring.
Norwegian also operates a thrice-weekly route to Riga.
