Jan 24, 2006 (newstodate): At midnight on February 1, 2006, a new EU regulation on "unsafe consignments" will take effect.
Hereafter all so-called "unsafe consignments", or every single consignments from an un-regulated agent or an unknown consignor will be subjected to a security screening.
The security screening will be compulsory for consignments booked on passenger flights.
From this date onwards, AWBs must either have a visible endorsement stating that the consignment came from a known consignor or an approved and regulated agent, or they must have a certificate attached, which guarantees that the consignment comes from a known consignor and that it was secure from tampering by third parties until it was delivered to the airline.
Consignments whose AWBs do not fulfil any of these regulations will be considered unsafe, and will not be flown before they are suitably screened and found to be safe.
