Jan 3, 2006 (newstodate): Vnukovo Airport is currently planning for major reconstruction and modernisation.
The plans comprise construction of three new cargo terminals.
One of the terminals, now under construction, will have a total floor space offer of 50,000 sq m and an annual cargo handling capacity of 150,000 tonnes.
A second new 6,000 sq m cargo terminal with direct airside access will be built on the site of the existing Cargo Terminal.
Complementing and completing the airport's cargo services, construction work on a third multi-modal cargo terminal with convenient rail and truck access routes will start later in 2006.
In 2004, Moscow's airports Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo accounted for 52.4, 42.0, and 5.5 percent, respectively, of the combined total of 392,000 tonnes of air cargo.
Despite a general decline in Russia's overall cargo volumes this year, Vnukovo is expected to have increased its volumes in 2005.
