Jan 17, 2006 (newstodate): Hungarian carrier Malev maintains its strategic aim to expand services to neignbouring Romania, one of Hungary's most important European markets.
On January 16, Malev launched its new thrice-weekly service from Budapest to Tirgu Mures, increasing the number of the Romanian destinations flown by the airline from four to five, and now operating 37 weekly flights to Romania.
Bucharest is the main route and is one of Malev's most dynamically developing.
Malev has been operating to Timisoara since 2002, which is served by six flights a week in the winter period, to be increased to ten from the start of the summer season.
In June, 2005, Malev launched a scheduled flight to Romania's fourth largest city, Constanta, which is a significant industrial and tourist centre. It connects is operated twice weekly during winter, and three times a week during summer.
Cluj Napoca was also added to the network last summer, with two daily flights operated in cooperation with the Romanian Airline, Carpatair.
