Jan 6, 2006 (newstodate): The Norwegian export market has responded strongly to the introduction of the Lufthansa Cargo/Japan Airlines Cargo freighter at Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
The new service to Nagoya, Japan, was launched on September 27, 2005 on a twice-weekly basis.
-So far we have sent much Norwegian export of fresh salmon to the Japanese market by the tri-partite freighter service from Gothenburg, Sweden, to Osaka, and these volumes have remained unchanged. But in addition the new service directly out of Oslo to Nagoya has performed excellently from the start, showing strong load factors, says Kjell Westby, Lufthansa Cargo manager Norway.
-As our total export volumes have thus gone up with the new freighter, we can safely assume that we have won market shares from our competitors, primarily Korean Air Cargo and Aeroflot, he says.
-Even more encouraging we are seeing a balanced operation as Nagoya is close to Toyota that generates much automotive cargo volume, says Mr Westby.
According to Mr Westby, there are no immediate plans to increase frequency on the freighter service in the near future.
