Jan 24, 2006 (newstodate): Privately-owned Russian airline KaliningradAvia continues its massive aircraft fleet build-up.
Based at the Russian Baltic enclave Kaliningrad, the carrier received its first Boeing 737 aircraft on February 12, 2005, and now operates six Boeing 737-300 aircraft.
The carrier expects to take in another 11 similar aircraft before the end of this year.
KaliningradAvia plans to set up Kaliningrad as a hub in a new traffic system connecting 30 West European and 30 Russian, CIS destinations.
On December 28, 2005, the airline started twice-weekly flights from Kaliningrad to Berlin, and since December 20, 2005, the carrier has operated two daily flights to Moscow in competition with Aeroflot.
The frequency on the Moscow flights have now been increased to a total of four daily flights, including two to Moscow Sheremetyevo, and two to Moscow Domodedovo Airport.
