Jan 31, 2006 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo's GSA in India sees great prospects for the airline's new thrice-weekly MD-11 passenger aircraft service between Helsinki and Delhi, to start by november, 2006.
-There is vast potential in India for Finnair's services to Finland, and also for its network particularly throughout Scandinavia and the CIS countries. Finnair has excellent regular connections from its Helsinki hub to these markets, backed up by express road feeder services, says Prabodh Tipnis, Global Aviation Director of Development.
-The new Finnair flights from Delhi will provide exporters throughout India with much-needed direct capacity. We expect to fill all the available space, amounting to around 180 tonnes of cargo per month, he says.
The Nordic markets are already served with direct once-weekly freighter operations by Singapore Airlines Cargo that flies between Copenhagen and Delhi and Bangalore.
In an earlier attempt, SAS Cargo failed to maintain its shortlived passenger-aircraft service between Copenhagen and Delhi that was closed down in 2000 after only six months of operations.
