Jan 10, 2006 (newstodate): In December, 2005, Finnair Cargo saw its overall cargo volume up by 2.5 percent.
Behind the modest increase hides a 21.9 percent hike in volumes on the carrier's Far Eastern route network.
This growth was, however, almost outbalanced by a drop in European traffic by 3.9, a fall in Transatlantic traffic by 35.1, and a decline by 27 percent in volumes on freighter traffic.
The company's overall load factor was a meagre 62 percent, but again the Far Eastern traffic soared with a load factor at 79.9. Load factor on the Transatlantic traffic was 80.7 percent.
While the company does not indicate any information on yield and revenue, it is safe to assume that the focus on Far Eastern operations, and the results from this business, ensures a significant contribution from cargo to the airline's aggregated economic performance.
