Jan 19, 2006 (newstodate): In its latest assesment of world flight standards, the US FAA maintains a Category 2 rating of Serbia Montenegro.
The new international aviation safety assesment scheme was published by FAA on January 13, 2006.
The sustained low rating of the country's failure to meet ICAO's standards may have implications for JAT's plans to start Northatlantic operations from May, already postponed earlier by the downrating.
-Carriers from Category 2 countries will not be permitted to commence service to the United States while in Category 2 status, although they may conduct services if operated using aircraft wet-leased from a duly authorized and properly supervised U.S. carrier or a foreign air carrier from a Category 1 country that is authorized to serve the United States with its own aircraft, FAA states.
Sources have earlier said the start of the planned service will take the form of a JV with Uzbekistan Hava Yollari, operating this company's A310 aircraft on the route.
Uzbekistan is rates as Category 1 in the FAA survey.
