Jan 20, 2006 (newstodate): Samara Airlines, member of the Russian airline alliance, AiRUnion, has received its first Boeing 737 aircraft.
The 737-300 aircraft has been acquired from Air Malta under a lease arrangement with IFLC, and arrived with the airline on January 14, 2006. It is now operated on the route between Samara and Moscow.
The Boeing 737 is the first of this type operated by AiRUnion airline members, while alliance member KrasAir also operates three Boeing 767-200ER aircraft.
A further four Boeing 737-300 aircraft will be delivered to AiRUnion member KrasAir this spring. This airline has ordered a total of eight aircraft of this type.
By three tonnes per flight hour, the fuel consumption of the ageing Boeing 737-300 aircraft is still only half of the TU-154M that it replaces.
