Jan 19, 2006 (newstodate): Russian carier Atlant-Soyuz Airlines is amidst an ambitious plan for expanding its cargo capacity.
The airline, set up on June 8, 1993, is the official air carrier of the Moscow City Government and maintains its home base at Moscow Vnukovo Airport.
The airline claims a position as the fourth largest Russian air cargo carrier in 2004 and currently operates a fleet comprising four Tu-154M, four IL-86 and Yak-42 aircraft in addition to one IL-96-300, one IL-96-400T, one AN-124-100, two TU-204C, and six IL-76TD freighter aircraft.
In June, 2005, Atlant-Soyuz Airlines signed a contract with the leasing company Ilyushin Finance for delivery of two IL-96-400T, with the first to arrive by the end of this year, and the second to follow by the end of 2007.
The carrier is the only Russian airline to operate the IL-96-300 in a pure cargo version.
Atlant-Soyuz plans to build its freighter fleet to a total of 16 aircraft by 2008, comprising one IL-96-300, two IL-96-400T, four AN-124-100, one AN-124-100M, two TU-204C, and six IL-76 freighters.
