Jan 17, 2006 (newstodate): Year 2005 saw a strong decline in cargo volumes at Gothenburg Airport.
The year ended with an accumulated fall at 11 percent in total volumes, with exports down 21 percent, and imports down two percent.
In total the airport generated 52,850 tonnes of air cargo in 2005, comprising 30,890 tonnes of imports, and 21,960 tonnes of exports.
The strong decrease in volumes is primarily due to Polar Air Cargo's suspension of operations at Gothenburg.
Today's freighter traffic at Gothenburg Landvetter comprises seven weekly calls by Emirates SkyCargo that operates two weekly return flights on the route between New York and Dubai via Gothenburg, in addition to three weekly flights from Gothenburg to Hong Kong via Dubai.
SAS Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo and Japan Airlines Cargo operate five weekly freighter flights from Frankfurt via Gothenburg to Osaka. One of these flights call at Gothenburg on the return flight, while the other four flights return directly to Frankfurt.
Finnair Cargo cooperates with Emirates on the Gothenburg-New York legs, while SAS Cargo cooperates with Emirates on the freighter service to Hong Kong.
