SEP 26, 2005 (newstodate): Zagreb Airport hopes to be able to open a new tender by next year for modernisation of the airport.
-Our earlier tender, in which 23 parties requested the tender material for a new airport terminal, was annulled as the area required was still under military control, says Damir Vince, Zagreb Airport adviser to the general manager.
-We are now in the process of reassessing the masterplan from 1997, and this work should be completed by next month. Also a study on various financing models should be ready by then, and the full material will then be presented to the government.
Mr Vince estimates that a new tender could be opened by the Autumn, 2006, pending final government approval.
The projects calls for construction of a new terminal some 2.5 km from the existing facilities, with 11 air bridges and an apron allowing for parking of up to 40 aircraft.
Also included is an extention of the runway to 3,500 meters.
